Some 350 million citizens of the European Union are eligible to vote for the 10th European Parliament in the elections taking place from 6 to 9 June 2024. In Germany, the elections will be held on Sunday, 9 June 2024. All Germans as defined in Article 116 (1) of the Basic Law (Grundgesetz) and all citizens of the other European Union member states who are residents of Germany are eligible to vote.

Some 66 million people in Germany are eligible to vote. About five million of them were first-time voters in the previous European elections. The number of first-time voters will be even larger in this year’s elections, because the voting age has been reduced to 16 from 18. Voters may vote for the lists of political parties and other political associations which have been approved to participate in the elections, but not for individual candidates. Eligible voters who live in an EU country other than their country of citizenship may vote in the country where they live or in the country of their citizenship. Germans of legal age who permanently live abroad are also eligible to vote.
